Spirituality-The Power of Karma

I just learn something new in my life: Spirituality. What is Spirituality? Is it a religion, a belief or just another school of thought? How many people in our society are into this "Spirituality"? I heard that there are many seminars being organized in Kuala Lumpur which encourage people to go for this Spirituality. Is it a self-help seminar or a wake-up call? Is it a good omen?
Personally, I think it has something to do with matters of the Spirit. Man's ultimate nature is often contrasted with the temporal or the worldly stages of Life. Maybe the Spirituality is a sense of connection to a much greater Whole which includes an emotional experience of religious awe and reverence. As with some forms of religion, the emphasis of Spirituality is often based on personal experience. It may be an expression of Life perceived on a higher, more complex or more integrated platform with the outerworldly views, as contrasted with the merely sensual or mortal ones.
So, what are the differences between a religion and Spirituality? What is the objective? Or is it merely a New Age trend? Is Spirituality related to Buddhism, Hinduism or other religion? How do one actually practise this? Do Spirituality practioners, in this sense Spiritualists, actually pray? If yes, whom do they pray to? God? Are Spiritualists the same with the so-called Free Thinkers?
While I was researching Spirituality books, I found this book, titled "The Power of Karma" by Mary T. Browne. The book is about understanding your past and shaping your future. It is an interesting book. Normally I will not buy or read this kind of books because I do not submit to the concept of Karma as I am a Christian. But I bought the book and I finished reading it. Coincidentally, I went to a Chinese temple in LA with my Boss but I did not go in. So, I was sitting on a bench by the main entrance and there were some books about Buddhism. A certain red book caught my attention. It is about Karma. I read some of it and it made me think. Is it really "what goes around, comes around"? Or is it purely a saying to teach the believers to do good deeds? At any rate and no matter how you look at it, it's a good thing. The book says Karma means action. Good action brings forth good karma and vice versa.
I think I am what I am because of my past thoughts, actions and desires. At the same time, I am building my future with my present thoughts, actions and desires.
Well, I always welcome your opinions and views on this. I'd love to learn more.

Dear Esther,
I too frequently look for some answers. I believe religion can play a big part. Unfortunately myself like many others are too busy living in this material world to cleanse ourselves to be in the platform we require to reach that 'outerworld'.
Take care
